Prescriptions
We are a small long established practice serving the village of Longton and surrounding areas. We try to get to know our patients and are committed to continuity of care which we believe is so important for everyone.
Ordering Repeat Prescriptions
The easiest ways to
order repeat
prescriptions are:
using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
Also the online service with AccuRx. AccuRx Link
fill out a repeat prescriptions request form
bring the paper form to the surgery – see our opening times here
Ring the surgery between 1pm & 4pm
Can the receptionist help you without the need for an appointment? eg assisting with a fit note, prescription or test results.
We will have your new prescription ready for collection from the surgery or the pharmacy of your choice within 48 hours (2 working days).
If you require a prescription urgently, please let the receptionist know and we will do our best to arrange this for you. Please note this can only be done in cases of true emergencies eg running out of insulin/inhalers for example.

Electronic Prescribing Service
This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.
This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.
To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

Medication Prescribed by the Hospital or other Health Care Professional
We are notified by letter of any changes to your medication list. Please be aware that these letters can take time to arrive and the GP will not be able to do a prescription safely until the information arrives. Some medication can only be prescribed by the hospital – particularly new or very specialist drugs.
Acute Medication Requests
Anything not on your repeat list will be classed as an acute prescription. All acute requests are considered carefully by the doctor and will not automatically be given. These requests may take longer than 48 hours.
Questions about your Prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription. The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see our GP / clinical pharmacist at least once a year for review. A notification should appear on your repeat slip – please do not ignore these reminders!
What to Do With Old Medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
